Professor Tawfiq Mousavand, the inventor of the first artificial heart inside the human body
Dr. Tawfiq Mosivand is a professor of surgery at the Ottawa School of Medicine in Canada and the world inventor of the first artificial heart inside the human body. He was born in 1315 in Varkane village of Hamedan and worked as a shepherd until he was 14 years old to help his family.
Dr. Mousavand is a graduate of agricultural engineering from Tehran University, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Canada, and a doctorate in medicine and heart surgery specialist from Canada. He is the man behind inventions such as the artificial heart, remote medical diagnosis and the adjustment and treatment of the heart, the determination of human DNA by fingerprints and 14 other medical inventions.
Tawfik Mousavand’s passion for learning led him to the University of Tehran and then to the University of Alberta in Canada with a scholarship he won. The first years of life in Canada were very difficult for Dr. Mosivand. In addition to learning the language and studying during the day and night, he even had to work as a dishwasher. After graduating in the fields of management and mechanical engineering, Tawfiq Mosivand married a Canadian girl and held several positions as an engineer in the 1970s.
After the invention of the artificial heart, he became world famous and headed many scientific and specialized boards and held the position of professor of surgery and engineering at Ottawa and Carleton universities. His research activities have resulted in the creation of 1,000 jobs a year in Canada and the overflow of more than 200 million dollars of foreign investment over ten years.
Ali Asghar Khodadost, the most prominent Iranian ophthalmic surgeon
Ali Asghar Khodadoost was born in Shiraz in 1936. He completed elementary and high school in his hometown and then worked as a teacher in Davari Darab Elementary School. In 1955, he participated in the entrance exam of Shiraz Medical School and was accepted among the candidates with a distinguished rank. He passed the six-year medical course with honors and after one year of ophthalmology residency at Shiraz University’s Namazi Hospital in 1961, he was chosen by the government to undergo a specialized course in the United States.
Dr. Ali Asghar Khoda Dost was the father of Iranian ophthalmology and professor of ophthalmology at American universities and one of the prominent ophthalmologists in the international arena. He was introduced as the best corneal transplant surgeon in the world by well-known figures of the American ophthalmology community. In addition to numerous scientific articles and extensive research in various fields and the quality of treatment and experience in surgical treatment, his fame is due to basic research in the field of corneal surface disorders, as far as the Khodadoust line is named in his honor in corneal transplants on the graft rejection mechanism. In Shiraz, he built Dr. Khodadoost Eye Hospital.
Professor Majid Samii, the most famous Iranian neurosurgeon
Professor Majid Samiei was born on 29 June 1938 in Tehran. He finished high school in Shahpur High School in Rasht and went to Germany to continue his education. According to Dr. Samii, at the age of 11, he became very interested in neurosurgery, and for this reason, he studied biology and medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. He was able to receive the special award of the Ministry of Science of Iran for the best students living in Europe due to obtaining the best grades in the final exams of the medical course.
He then began a specialized course in neurosurgery under the supervision of Kurt Schurman, and in 1971, that is, at the age of 33, he succeeded in receiving a specialized board degree in this field from Germany.
Professor Samii started the first microscopic surgery training course in 1972, and in 1978, with the help of the Volkswagen Foundation, he established Germany’s first microscopic surgery practice laboratory.

In 1978, he became the head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Noordashdat Hospital in Hannover, Germany. In 1988, he accepted the position of neurosurgery professor at Hannover Medical University. For several years, Professor Samii was the head of both neurosurgery departments at Noordashdat Hospital and Hannover Medical University.
In 1979, he founded the first skull base surgery training course in the world in the city of Hanover, and in 1997 to 2001, he was elected to the position of the president of the World Federation of Neurosurgery Societies.
In the 1990s, Professor Majid Samii founded a private international neuroscience center, called INI, in the center of Hanover, Germany. This center, whose architectural design is derived from the shape of the brain, uses the best international doctors and the latest medical and service technologies, and for this reason, provides the highest quality health services to nervous system patients. About 14 years ago, Professor Samii announced his retirement from the head of neurosurgery departments at Noordashdat Hospital and Hannover Medical University and devoted all his energy to the development of this institution. In 2004, Professor Sami also organized and established the China International Institute of Neuroscience located in Beijing Medical University.

Dr. Farhad Shekohi, one of the world’s medical geniuses, was born in Freidan city. He is a lecturer of trauma (brain injuries and spinal cord injuries) and a lecturer of advanced cardiac resuscitation in American universities.
