In November 2009, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated July 18th as World Nelson Mandela Day, coinciding with the birthday of Nelson Mandela.In this day, the world is talking about the achievements and legacy of a man who changed the game in the 20th century.

Kental travel: Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, in a tiny village called Mvezo in South Africa. He fought against apartheid and tried to bring equality and justice to his peeps. Mandela got locked up for 27 years for fighting for the rights of black folks. But once he got out in 1990, he became the President of South Africa. With his inspiring attitude, he worked on bringing everyone together and building a society where everyone could be free and treated equally. Nelson Mandela is a worldwide symbol of freedom, reconciliation, and resistance, and is one of the all-time greatest leaders.

  • Amnesty International gave him the Ambassador of Conscience Award in 2006.
  • He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
  • They made him an Honorary Companion of the Order of Canada.
  • He’s got the Honorary Order of St. George.
  • The dude even got the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
  • Mandela snagged the Lenin Peace Prize in 1990.
  • He also got the Bharat Ratna in 1990.
  • And let’s not forget the Order of Merit in 1995.
  • Oh, and he was granted the Freedom of the City of Johannesburg in 2004.
